Since then, over 30 members of staff, including the council, are in quarantine

Guardian Media was told that the councillor was at a Statutory Meeting before being tested positive and it is believed that an alderman was exposed and he too tested positive

Not just the council was placed in quarantine but supporting staff and the Corporation’s Health Department

Guardian Media was informed by a staff member that there is a growing concern with regards to the lack of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and the lack of sanitisation at the corporation’s building

The staff members are also claiming that other staff members have tested positive for COVID 19. They alleged that two weeks ago, a staff member died from the virus

Chaguanas mayor Faaiq Mohammed confirmed via text message, that the council was in isolation

Mohammed said in the message: “I am currently in isolation as well as other members of the council who came into contact with a COVID positive person. That period of isolation ends today (yesterday). We were all tested on Wednesday 26th April and I tested negative. The CBC administrative building was then closed at 1 pm on Thursday 27th April for sanitisation

I am ready to resume work as there are a lot of people suffering based on loss of jobs due to these new COVID 19 regulations and there is much to be done as it relates to delivering humanitarian aid,” Mohammed said

Efforts to contact Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein was unsuccessful as his cellphone went unanswered
